6/20/2011 - Effective April 2011, a new Recycler Qualification Office (RQO) has been
established to manage the Electronics Recycling Standard (ERS) and
perform audits under the Recycler Qualification Program (RQP). Developed
in cooperation with the industry-led provincial programs and EPSC, the
RQO manages all recycler assessments and approvals on behalf of
industry-led end-of-life electronic recycling programs.
To learn more, view the Recycler Qualification Office and Standards page or visit www.rqp.ca.
4/5/2011 - The Electronics Reuse and Refurbishing Program (ERRP),
developed by eStewardship.ca and adopted
by ACES, aims to maximize the amount of materials available for reuse and
further ensure that materials entering the reuse stream are utilized to the
greatest extent possible.
Both for-profit and not-for-profit entities involved in
the reuse and/or refurbishment of used electronic products and who wish to
receive recognition under the ACES program for their responsible environmental,
safety and social management practices are encouraged to view the full details of
the ERRP.
Through a competitive procurement process, ACES has
recently selected two qualified environmental audit firms (AET Group Inc. and Campbell Auditing Services Inc.) to
assess applicants against the Electronics Reuse and Refurbishing Standard
(ERRS) which is an integral component of the ERRP.
ACES will begin accepting applications in June from
organizations and entrepreneurs seeking to undergo the audit process and
verification to the ERRS. For more
information, you may contact ACES at info@acestewardship.ca
or toll-free: 1-877-774-3260.
9/27/2010 - ACES is seeking qualified auditors with
expertise and experience in environmental and compliance auditing for the
auditing of electronics Reuse / Refurbishing organizations, according to the
requirements of the Electronics Reuse and Refurbishing Program (ERRP).
The selected Auditor(s) will be responsible for conducting an on-site audit for
Reuse / Refurbishing organizations located in Nova Scotia or PEI that are
seeking to be recognized under the ACES Reuse / Refurbishment program. The audit
will be used to assess conformance of the organization to the ERRP, and will
include an initial on-site audit, as well as any follow-up activities required
to assess and close identified deficiencies.
For more information or details on the submission of a
response, please consult the REOI document.
REOI
CLARIFICATION UPDATE (Oct. 18, 2010): For
the REOI responses we require only a description in response to the criteria of
each element in section 6.0. If/when the program moves forward with the
Auditor(s) we would request further detail such as copies of pertinent
certifications, etc.
9/24/2010 - In fulfilling its commitment to address and promote
proper reuse and refurbishment options for unwanted electronic equipment, ACES
in partnership with British Columbia (ESABC), Saskatchewan (SWEEP) recently
approved a new Electronics Reuse and Refurbishing Program (ERRP).
Developed through the Harmonization
Office, ERRP is designed
to foster responsible environmental, safety and social management practices
related to the reuse and refurbishing of electronics and aims to maximize the
amount of materials available for reuse. Furthermore, the program will
ensure that materials entering the reuse stream are utilized to the greatest
extent possible.

8/31/2010 - ACES, in cooperation with ESABC, OES and SWEEP, is researching and developing a set of core key performance indicators which are relevant to the electronic products industry. This comprehensive review of how electronics recycling programs operate world-wide tackles the challenge of tracking and reporting performance indicators.
The report makes recommendations on performance measures for regulated and industry-led electronics stewardship programs in Canada. This includes continued harmonization between the programs to encourage continuous program improvement, allows for comparative analysis on program impacts, and satisfies various regulatory requirements.
The report recommends nine key performance indicators which should be implemented and reported on by all four programs immediately. For more information, download the Performance Measurement Report for Electronics Stewardship Programs in Canada.
